“This was great stuff” Chael Sonnen Applauded Tom Aspinall’s For His “Duck” Move

At the O2 Arena last week at UFC London, Tom Aspinall caught the attention of MMA fans once again. He found a unique way to mock the reigning heavyweight champ, Jon Jones, who has been ignoring the Brit for more than 500 days to fight for a unification title bout. Tom Aspinall, after winning the interim heavyweight title, defended it against Curtis Blaydes, while Jon Jones defended his title against Stipe Miocic instead of fighting the Brit.

Whenever the title unification bout comes into the picture, Jon Jones puts some conditions in front of the UFC, and it is still unclear whether we could get to see a Jon Jones fight this year. In his latest move to mock the heavyweight champ, Tom Aspinall brought a rubber duck with himself while sitting outside the cage in the audience and pulled it out when the camera showed him. The move got both applause and criticism from the fans, but former UFC Welterweight title contender now-turned-analyst Chael Sonnen lauded the interim champ for his “Classic” move.

In a recently uploaded video, Chael Sonnen said this about the Brit.

Tom showed up at a UFC event and pulled out a rubber duck, symbolizing Jon Jones ducking him. This guy is rich and famous—he could have splurged on a high-end duck, but instead, he pulls out one like you’d get in a Happy Meal, probably worth around 15 cents. He’s sitting in a $5,000 seat but chose a 15-cent duck. That was great stuff!”

On the Ariel Helwani Show, Tom Aspinall revealed that some big news is coming after meeting with UFC executive Hunter Campbell.

I can’t speak for how he is with other people, but with me and my team, he’s been nothing but hospitable and fantastic. We had a great meeting. Everything went incredibly well, and now I understand my position and what the company is doing. You’ll just have to stay tuned, my friend. There’s some big news coming.”
