RCB vs SRH: In the 30th match of the IPL 2024, history was re-written by Sunrisers Hyderabad batters by breaking their previous total record of 277 runs and scoring the highest ever first innings score of an IPL match. Sunrisers Hyderabad at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium scored 287 runs against the home team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, to win the game by 25 runs. There was some counterattack from the RCB’s side, but the target was so huge that they got only close to 262 runs while chasing. This was SRH’s fourth win in the IPL 2024, and RCB still have only one win in their pocket.
RCB’s skipper, Faf du Plessis, won the toss and decided to bowl first. SRH’s dangerous opening pair, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, started the innings for their team. Like their previous matches, they started putting pressure on the bowlers with the first ball of the match, with Travis Head leading the attack from the front. Travis Head hit his fifty in 20 balls, and SRH hit 76/0 in 6 overs. Abhishek Sharma got dismissed in the 9th over of the game, but a storm was about to come as Heinrich Klaasen joined hands with Travis Head, and both batters were ruthless in their approach, smashing RCB’s bowlers all over the park. Travis Head scored his century in just 39 balls, whereas Klaasen scored 67 runs with some fireworks at the end by Abdul Samad and Aiden Markram; SRH ended with 287 runs on the board.
While chasing the highest total of an IPL match. RCB’s start was good enough to make SRH make some changes in their approach, with 79 runs on the board in the first six overs. RCB cleared their intent of no-stopping till the last balls of the match, but in the seventh over, RCB lost their first wicket on the score of 83 as Virat Kohli was sent back to Pavilion by Mayank Markande. Will Jacks get dismissed in the next over, and then a series of wickets put RCB on the back foot. In 10 overs, RCB was 122/5. Dinesh Karthik re-ignited the hopes of the RCB fans with his fearless show, but the batter’s innings ended with a score of 83. RCB scored 262 runs in return and lost the match by 25 runs.

Much better (batting performance) from us, that was a proper t20 wicket. Just tried to get close in the end, but 280 was very far. It’s tough. We tried a few things, we tried different things. There’s no way to hide when your confidence is low. The fast bowlers found it quite difficult out there. Similar to the batting perspective, we need to work on few areas. Need to make sure the run rate doesn’t go down after powerplay. The guys put up their hand and never gave up (in the run chase).
