RR vs MI: Nehal Wadhera with Yashasvi Jaiswal

RR vs MI: Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians in the 38th match of the IPL 2024 to register their seventh victory in the tournament. Yashasvi Jaiswal played the role of match-winner for Rajasthan Royals, as the left-handed batter scored his second century of the league. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden and second century both came against Mumbai Indians. The home team chased the target of 180 runs, losing only one wicket in the match. With this victory, they have maintained themselves at the top of the table with seven wins in eight matches.

After winning the toss, Hardik Pandya chose to bowl first, and the home team’s bowler Trent Boult, as always, picked his first wicket of the match in the first over, dismissing Rohit Sharma with a score of 6. Ishant Sharma followed his partner on a duck in the next over, and then Suryakumar Yadav MI was in deep trouble with 20/3 inside four overs of the powerplay. Tilak Varma and Mohammad Nabi kept running the scoreboard, but Yuzvendra Chahal cleaned the latter. The partnership between Nehal Wadhera and Tilak Varma took MI out of the troubled waters. Tilak Varma scored his fifty, but Wadhera wasn’t fortunate and missed his fifty by just one run. Mumbai Indians scored 179/9 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 180 runs, Rajasthan Royals were off to a flying start, with its openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring runs from both ends. The left-handed batter was hitting the ball cleanly, and RR posted 61 runs on the board at the end of the powerplay in the eighth over, where Piyush Chawla picked the wicket of Jos Buttler to ignite some hope in MI’s camp. But Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t let the happiness remain in the MI for too long, and with some sloppy fielding efforts and dropped catches, both batters kept going. Where the former scored his second IPL hundred, and Rajasthan chased the total with 8 balls left.

IPL 2024 38th Match RR vs MI: Captains’ Corner

“We put ourselves in trouble early on. The way Tilak and Nehal batted – that was fantastic. I don’t think that when we lost a couple of wickets early we thought we would even reach 180. We didn’t finish well and that’s why we were 10-15 runs short. We had to keep it within the stumps (while bowling). Early on in the powerplay, we gave a lot of width and I don’t think it was our best day in the field as well. Overall, we did not put the right foot on the park and eventually they outplayed us. After the game, it’s not the right time to go to the players, everyone is professional, they know their roles.

“Credit has to go to all the players. Started well in the powerplay. In the middle, the left-handers played unbelievably. But the way we came back was where we won the game. Wicket looked a bit dry. But when lights come in, gets colder in the night, it gets better to bat in the second innings. People are professional enough about what to do when they get a break. I don’t think he needs (advice from) anyone (Jaiswal). He’s very confident. Was about one game. Let’s see how the wicket is there (Lucknow) and let’s see how it goes.”
