MI vs SRH: Mumbai Indians registered their fourth victory in the IPL 2024 in the 55th match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. MI’s last match against KKR at Wankhede was a low-scoring thriller, and the home team ended up on the losing side. But this time, they bounced back to defeat SRH by 7 wickets to rise above them in the points table.
MI’s skipper elected to bowl first after winning the toss, and SRH openers started dominating the MI’s bowlers, posting 50+ runs inside powerplay, but Jasprit Bumrah made a comeback by taking the wicket of Abhishek Sharma. Travis Head kept going from one end but didn’t get much support from the other. Piyush Chawla dismissed him with a score of 48. The top order collapsed after him, and Pat Cummins’s innings of 35 runs in the death overs helped his team reach the score of 173/8 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing a total of 174 runs, MI’s start wasn’t good as the SRH’s bowlers dismissed the openers at cheap, with Rohit Sharma getting out on four and Ishan Kishan on 9, soon Naman Dhir also getting out on a duck, and MI were 30/3. MI was in trouble, and that’s where Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma formed the partnership needed to take their team to a win. Both batters took time to understand the pitch’s behavior, and once their arms started flowing, the runs kept coming. Suryakumar Yadav batted till the end and scored his century, whereas the left-handed batter Tilak Varma also remained not out. Mumbai Indians won the match by seven wickets with 16 balls to spare.

I don’t know the mathematical situation we need to go through but happy with how we went today. Gave 15-20 runs extra but batting was excellent. My bowling – I do the stuff I do. I like bowling good areas and see how it goes. Today it was nipping around and that worked. The wickets Piyush took are guys who can take the game away. He asked to long from the shorter side but had to adjust. In T20s, more than change-ups consistency is important, which PC was today, and found success with. SKY was unbelievable. More than him getting runs, him putting so much pressure on bowlers that even other batters get loose balls. He breaks you. He’s evolved. Lucky to have him in my team. Hope to have many more such innings.

Defending here at Wankhede you want as much as possible. We felt a little bit unders but still felt we were in the game. There was a bit there in the wicket early. You saw in our batting innings that the wicket had a bit in it till the 10-12 over mark, so felt we were in the game in the chase. (On the sub) Having Sanvir out there got us to 170 rather than 150, which would’ve had us lose no matter who’s in the side. Ideally we’d have had a pacer but wouldn’t have made too much of a difference. We obviously wanted to win. It’s T20 cricket, doesn’t always work out that way. Came against a good side, particularly SKY. We like playing at homem done well there so far. Looking forward to what’s ahead of us. Hopefully a few more fireworks. (Harsha says think you gave us an insight on how the pitch will be) I’ll have no say in the surface, we’ll see how it goes.
