India vs Bangladesh: India continued its winning streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Bangladesh in the 47th match of the tournament.
India was invited to bat first by Bangladesh’s skipper Shakib-al-Hasan. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the innings, and from the first ball, Rohit Sharma cleared his intent of aggressive play to the opposition’s bowlers. Both batters were scoring runs, but it was in the 4th over when trying to hit another maximum, the ball found the edge of Rohit’s bat, and Jaker Ali caught it safely to give the first blow to India, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant built a brief partnership but in the ninth over Kohli departed followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket in the third ball of the over. Rishabh Pant got dismissed on 36, and then came Hardik Pandya, who scored his first fifty of the T20 World Cup 2024 and took India to 196/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing 197, Bangladesh got a decent start with their openers, Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan, scoring runs from both ends. Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the fifth over, and Litton Das got caught at the deep square leg. After that, Kuldeep Yadav sent two batters to the dugout, and Bangladesh was on the back foot. However, skipper Shanto gave a fight and scored 40 runs in the chase, but losing wickets at regular intervals cost them as Bangladesh could only score 146 runs in 20 overs to lose the match by 50 runs.

T20 World Cup 2024 Super-8: India vs Bangladesh| Captains’ Corner
“We know what is expected out of us, and what we need to do, and how we need to play as well. We adapted to the conditions, there is a bit of a [wind] factor that you need to take into account, and we were smart with the bat, and used the conditions well with the ball too. All eight batters need to play their role, whatever it is. Our top score was 50, and we still got 196. In T20 you don’t need fifties and hundreds, what matters is the pressure you put on the bowlers. That’s how we want to play, that’s how we want to encourage ourselves to play going forward as well. Hardik batting well, the way he did today, puts us in a very good state, because we wanted to finish off well after the top five set up the platform. We all know what he can do, and today was the perfect example of that. He’s a very important player for us, with bat and ball.”
Rohit Sharma(India Captain) said post-match
“I think we were thinking about 160-170, that would have been good for us, but the way they batted, credit goes to them. The players are used to this kind of weather [and wind], so I don’t think that was an issue. I think we had a lot of batting options today, but we didn’t show the intent we needed. I try to contribute in every match, but I should have tried to finish this. Tanzim Sakib, in this tournament, has done a great job, and I should mention Rishad. We have been looking for a legspinner for a while, and it’s good to have him.”
Najmul Hussain Shanto(Bangladesh Captain) said post-match
