India defeated England by 15 runs in the 4th T20I match of the five match series to take an unassailable lead of 3-1 against the visitors.
England won the toss and invited the host to bat at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings for India, and the poor form of the wicket-keeper batter continued in this match. Carse caught him on deep backward square leg in the 2nd over. Tilak Varma was dismissed in the following delivery on a duck as India lost 2 wickets early. In the final ball of his first over, Mahmood also dismissed Suryakumar Yadav to pick 3 wickets in his first over. Rinku Singh and Abhishek Sharma got the crucial runs on the board for their team but couldn’t go beyond 30 and 29 runs. It was Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya’s partnership that took India to a huge total as both batters scored their fifties to take India to the total of 181 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 182 runs, England’s start was good. England’s openers, Phil Salt and Ben Duckett, provided the start to their team and scored 62 runs in the powerplay. In the last delivery of the powerplay, Ravi Bishnoi picked up Ben Duckett’s wicket to get India’s first breakthrough. In the next over, Axar Patel dismissed Phil Salt to get the second wicket. Bishnoi removed skipper Jos Buttler in the 8th over to push England on the back foot. However, Harry Brook read the conditions well and started smashing the bowlers all over the park to reduce the chase gap. Varun Chakravarthy sent Harry Brook and Brydon Carse back to the pavilion to ensure India’s victory. India bowled out England on 166 to win the match by 15 runs.

India vs England, 4th T20I: Captains’ Corner
We started brilliantly, taking lots of wicket in the powerplay. At the end of the batting powerplay we were in a great position and I think we should have gone on to win. [Let it slip?] Disappointing, we did some good things. I dropped a catch and Dube played a really good innings. We were in a fantastic position with the bat, then lost wickets together. [Lessons] We’ve doubled down on how we want to play and I’m really impressed with how we did that. I think we can commit more and then when we do that we’ll get more out of ourselves.”
Jos Buttler(England’s Captain) said post-match
“Top effort from everyone, and the great crowd from start till the end. [12 for 3] We didn’t want to go back, boys know what brand of cricket we want to play. Three wickets in one over was too much. But the positivity, and the way Dube and Pandya showed their experience in the middle was great. This is what we have been talking about – expressing yourself and batting the same way as in the nets. The way they practice is incredible and they do it in the game. I’m happy, I think we’re moving in the right direction. I always knew post-powerplay, [overs] 7-10 there was a time we could control the game. We picked up a few wickets, and then Harshit Rana came in as a third seamer and delivered for us, that was incredible.”
