PBKS vs KKR: Punjab Kings defended the lowest total in IPL history, winning the match by 16 runs after scoring just 111 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 31st match of the IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first after winning the toss. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh started the innings for Punjab Kings and didn’t take much time to smash the bowlers. It was looking like yet another high scorer, but then Harshit Rana dismissed Priyansh Arya in the 4th over of the powerplay, and then skipper Shreyas Iyer got out courtesy of Ramandeep Singh’s great catch at Deep backward point. Josh Inglis and Prabhsimran Singh were next to depart. KKR’s bowlers didn’t let any batter settle and bowled out Punjab Kings for 111 runs in 15.3 overs.
It seemed like an easy chase for the defending champions, but Punjab Kings had the game plan to defend the total, and the bowlers were on point to execute that. Punjab Kings’ bowlers dismissed KKR’s openers early in the powerplay to put pressure on the opponents. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and skipper Ajinkya Rahane partnered to take the score to 55 runs in 6 overs. A win for KKR was looking inevitable, but Yuzvendra Chahal reignited his team’s hopes by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane. KKR started losing wickets from there as Punjab Kings spinners were all over KKR batters. Andre Russell was the one who had the potential to take the game away from the Kings, but Marco Jansen dismissed him to win the match for his team by 16 runs.

IPL 2025, Match 31st, PBKS vs KKR: Captains’ Corner
“I’ll take the blame, played the wrong shot, was missing, but it started from there. I didn’t want to take a chance at the time, I wasn’t sure as well. wicket was not that easy, 111 was chaseable, we batted really badly as a batting unit, bowlers did really well against a strong Punjab batting line up. I thought we were reckless, should take full responsibility as a unit. Too many things going through my head. Very disappointed. Need to keep myself really calm and think about what I’m going to talk to the boys.”
Ajinkya Rahane(KKR Captain) said post-match
“It’s had to express in words, I saw the ball was turning a bit, asked Yuzi to control his breathing as much as possible, we needed to be attacking, I’m not able to talk, it’s tough to digest this victory … When I went out to bat i faced two balls, one stayed low, the other carried, there was variable bounce in the wicket … we got to a decent total, considering we won by 16 runs … the bounce wasn’t consistent and the pace was variable … Two wickets in two overs gave us momentum but their two batters took the momentum towards them, but when Yuzi started turning the ball, our expectations and hopes got higher, I wanted the fielders to be attacking around the batsmen so that they try different shots, and the tide turned towards us. We need to stay humble …this win is going to give us a boost.”
