The Bengal Warriors, a kabaddi team based in Kolkata, have had an interesting journey in the Pro Kabaddi League. Owned by the Future Group and promoted by Kishore Biyani, the team had a disappointing start in the first two seasons of the league.
However, things began to change for the team in the third season when they made it to the playoffs. This success was followed by consistent qualification for the playoffs in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons respectively. In the 2019 season, the team finally made it to the PKL final for the first time in their history by defeating U Mumba in The Arena.
Although they were trailing by a significant margin in the final against Dabang Delhi, the Bengal Warriors made a strong comeback and won the match by a margin of 39-34. It was an impressive victory for the team, especially considering that their captain Maninder Singh had sustained a shoulder injury in the penultimate league stage and was unable to play in the final.
Currently, the team is led by Maninder Singh and coached by Kasinatha Baskaran. They play their home matches at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.
In the season 9, Maninder was once again retained as the captain of the team. In their opening match against Haryana Steelers, he became only the second player after Pardeep Narwal to reach the 1000 raid points milestone in the Pro Kabaddi League. On November 5, Maninder scored his career-best of 20 raid points in a single match, leading his team to a 45-50 victory against Gujarat Giants.
Maninder’s incredible skills and leadership have helped him establish himself as one of the most talented and influential players in the Pro Kabaddi League. His contributions to the sport have made him a role model for young players in India, and his performances continue to inspire fans around the world.
The Pro Kabaddi League, which was launched in 2014, has become a popular platform for kabaddi players in India. With the success of teams like the Bengal Warriors, the league has gained a huge following among fans of the sport, and has helped to popularize kabaddi not just in India, but around the world.
