Global Baseball Showdown: 2024 Premier12 Unveils Elite Roster of National Teams
The 2024 WBSC Premier12 has announced the 12 top-ranked national teams set to compete in the pinnacle event of international baseball. The participating teams, including powerhouse nations like Japan, USA, and Cuba, will vie for supremacy in the tournament slated for November next year in Tokyo.
Representing four Olympic continents, the selected teams are Japan, Mexico, USA, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Australia, and Panama. With the world’s top 12 teams in contention, the tournament promises high-stakes baseball action.
WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari congratulated the qualifying teams, expressing anticipation for another successful Premier12 tournament that will captivate baseball fans globally.
The competition format will see the 12 teams divided into two groups for round-robin matches. The top two from each group will advance to the Super Round, where the first and second-placed teams will vie for the Premier12 title, while the third and fourth-placed teams compete for third place.
The tournament will unfold across three locations, with Chinese Taipei and the Americas hosting the group stages, and Tokyo hosting the prestigious Super Round and medal games. Group A matches will take place in the Americas from 10-14 November, while Group B clashes are scheduled in Taipei from 14-18 November, with the opening game set at Nagoya Dome in Japan on 13 November.
The Tokyo Dome will host the Super Round from 21-23 November, featuring a round-robin format, followed by the medal games on 24 November.
Japan, the reigning Premier12 champions and world number one, will defend their title on home soil, led by global baseball sensation Shohei Ohtani. The tournament is poised to showcase thrilling matchups and fierce competition as nations compete for baseball supremacy on the international stage.
