After getting kicked out from the playoffs race, the last IPL season’s winner, Kolkata Knight Riders, lost their final league match of the IPL 2025 against Sunrisers Hyderabad yesterday by a margin of 110 runs. After getting the loss, KKR ended their season with just five wins in the 14 matches they played; under the new captain Ajinkya Rahane, KKR didn’t get the results they wanted and taking responsibility for the last match defeat the skipper said that they had chances to win 2 or 3 games more in the league and could also finish at top two, but that couldn’t happen.
“Throughout the season, we had our moments, we had our chances, 2-3 close games which we thought we didn’t play well as a team, as a unit. Apart from that, we tried our best, we gave our best. A format like this, you got to be switched on every time. This format is really tough, this IPL is really tough.”
Ajinkya Rahane said post-match
Rahane was handed the captaincy of the defending team for IPL 2025; the heavy purchase, Venkatesh Iyer for this season didn’t work for the KKR as the left-handed batter couldn’t able to execute what he meant to, not just him, the lower order batting unit failed to perform like they did last year Rinku Singh and Andre Russell though performed in some matches their ability to finish the game for their team couldn’t be seen in the IPL 2025. The skipper vowed that the franchise will make a comeback next year to claim the trophy again.
As a team, we had those chances, we had those moments, we would have been probably number one or two in the table. But, no regrets, lots to learn from this season. All the players tried their best, gave their best. We’ll come back really stronger next year.”
