India vs Nepal: India defeated Nepal by 82 runs to reach semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024.
After winning the toss, India’s stand-in skipper, Smriti Mandhana, chose to bat first, and this time, India started their innings with a different duo; Shafali Verma and Dayalan Hemalatha provided the start India needed. Both batters took on Nepal’s bowlers and started dealing in boundaries. Shefali Verma was the first to score a fifty, and Hemalatha continued her innings from the other. Both had a partnership of 122 runs as Hemalatha got out in the 14th over of the match after scoring 47 runs. Shafali Verma scored 81 runs, the highest total of her T20Is. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 28 runs in the team’s total as India finished with 178/3 in 20 overs.
Chasing 179 runs, Nepal started with the duo of Samjhana Khadka and Sita Rana Magar, where the former hit the first boundary of Nepal’s innings in the first ball she faced. Arundhati Reddy, in the next over, picked up her wicket to get India’s first breakthrough. After the first dismissal, Nepal was nowhere in the game, and Indian bowlers kept the pressure on. Though Sita Rana Magar fought hard, she succumbed to India’s bowling attack after scoring 18 runs for her team. Skipper Indu Barma started off promisingly well with two boundaries in two balls to start her innings, but she could only reach 14 runs as Radha Yadav picked up her wicket. Nepal’s innings ended with 96 runs on the board as India won the match by 82 runs.

Asia Cup 2024(Women) Match 10: India vs Nepal| Captains’ Corner
As an opener, you don’t have a lot of games when you don’t get to bat. Really happy with the way Shafali batted… We finished off really well. Not a lot of pre-decision. The wind is different to what we have back home. Some runs under the belt always gives them confidence. Really good game to get things going. Not only this tournament, but also in the last five or six months, the preparation [for the T20 World Cup had started]… We always believe that it if you have to win the World Cup, it’s a big preparation. They always had a smile on their faces; they were enjoying each and every ball. Hopefully, they keep improving. [On the semi-final] You don’t take any team lightly. Nothing changes for us. We have time to rest and practice as well.”
Smriti Mandhana(India Captain) said post-match
Proud of my team, and the effort we put in – I think we realised our weakness. We’ll come back stronger. We got lot of exposure playing against India. Definitely happy with my team. After the tenth over, our bowlers got good momentum. My team-mates and I got lots of experience playing against India and Pakistan.”
