In the four World Cups he played, he took 71 wickets, which is the highest wicket taken by a bowler in the ODI World Cups till now. In the last ODI World Cup, which he played in 2007, he took a wicket on the penultimate ball he threw, and he won the man of the tournament for his outstanding bowling performance in the World Cup. Australia won their fourth ICC ODI World Cup title that year. His best figure in the World Cup was against Namibia, when he took seven wickets in a match.

Sri Lanka’s legendary bowler and one of the greatest spinners of all time, Muttiah Muralitharan, is at number 2 on the highest wicket takers list. Muralitharan played 39 innings and took 68 wickets. Though he didn’t get any fifer in the World Cup, his best figure in the ODI event was 4/19.
