Digvesh Rathi And Abhishek Sharma Fined After Ugly Verbal Spat During The Match

Digvesh Rathi and Abhishek Sharma after a match

In the 61st match of the IPL 2025, LSG’s spinner Digvesh Rathi and SRH’s all-rounder Abhishek Sharma had a heated argument during the game, which led to both of them facing the fury of the BCCI for their behavior. Digvesh Rathi, after picking up the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in the 3rd delivery of the 8th over, did his “Notebook” gesture, and that fiery send-off triggered the left-handed batter, who returned while going to the dug-out and exchanged some heated words with the bowler. The on-field umpires came to calm the situation, and the two were separated. The incident didn’t go unnoticed, and the board decided to fine both players for their misconduct.

Digvesh Rathi was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the IPL code of conduct; this was his 3rd time violating Article 2.5 this season, due to which he accumulated five demerit points. He already had three demerit points, one against Punjab Kings and two against Mumbai Indians, and the incident on Monday forced the BCCI to add 2 more demerit points. The bowler faced a one-game suspension and must pay a fine, equivalent to 50% of his match fees.

Abhishek Sharma, on the other hand, was found guilty of breaching the IPL code of conduct for the first time and accumulated one demerit point. The all-rounder has been fined 25% of his match fees.

Digvesh Rathi won’t play his team’s next match, which is scheduled against the Gujarat Titans on 22nd May 2025. The spinner was inducted into the team after the mega-auction last year, and he didn’t disappoint his team in doing his job. He picked 14 wickets in the 12 matches he played with an economy of 8.18. He is the highest wicket-taker for LSG this season.

After losing against Sunrisers Hyderabad, LSG was eliminated from the playoffs race for the second consecutive season.
