The Indian women’s cricket team made India proud by clinching gold at the Asian Games 2023. This is the second gold medal won by India in the Asian Games, which are happening in Hangzhou, China. India’s first gold medal was won by the team of Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Divyansh Singh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar at 10m air rifle, and now the Indian women’s cricket team, with their exceptional performance throughout the event, added one more gold to India’s name. In their final match playing as a unit, they defeated Sri Lanka’s women’s team by 19 runs courtesy of Titas Sadhu’s bowling as the 18-year-old rattled Sri Lanka’s top order, which built pressure on the opposition.

She ended her spell by taking 3 wickets in the 4 overs she bowled, conceding just 6 runs due to her exceptional bowling spell. India, even after posting a modest score of 116 runs, successfully defended it and won the match. India, after defeating Bangladesh in the semi-finals of the Asian Games 2023, went on to face Sri Lanka, who defeated Pakistan in the semi-finals. India, batting first, posted a score of 116-7 in the 20 overs. Vice captain Smriti Mandhana scored 46 off 45 balls, and Jemimah Rodrigues played a watchful innings of 42 in 40 balls that helped India put a defendable total on the board.

While Chasing the target of 117 runs, Sri Lanka’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu made her intentions clear as she hit Deepti Sharma for a maximum in the fourth ball, but it was Titas Sadhu who trapped the skipper in her swing and pace. Before dismissing Sri Lanka’s skipper, she sent Anushka Sanjeewani and Vishmi Gunaratne to the dugout. Sri Lanka’s middle order showed some resistance, but the Indian bowlers were good enough to restrict them at 97/8 in the 20 overs.
