India vs England 1st T20I: India and England clashed at Eden Gardens in the 1st T20I of the 5-match series. The host defeated the visitors by 7 wickets to take a lead of 1-0 in the series.
India, after winning the toss, invited England to bat first. Phil Salt and Ben Duckett started the innings for England, but Arshdeep Singh cleaned the former in the first over on a duck. In the 3rd over, Arshdeep struck again and took the wicket of Ben Duckett. Skipper Jos Buttler started attacking the bowlers from his end; for a brief, he got support from the other end as Harry Brook looked good until Varun Chakravathy bowled the latter. After Harry Brook’s wicket, no batter scored significant runs, though the skipper scored his fifty, which wasn’t enough to take England to a grand total. At the end of 20 overs, England posted 132 runs on the board.
Chasing 133 runs, India started with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. The duo is known for their explosive start, though scoring just 1 run in the 1st over. Sanju Samson hit 22 runs in the next to deliver what he was sent for, but Jofra Archer picked his wicket, and then skipper Suryakumar Yadav was sent back to the dugout on a duck, which put India in trouble. Abhishek Sharma didn’t let the pressure take over him and played his natural game; he was rushing towards the target and hitting every ball in his arc. He brought his fifty in just 21 balls and scored 79 runs before getting out. India reached the target in just 12.5 overs, winning the match by 7 wickets.
