MI vs DC IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya and Co. celebrating the victory

MI vs DC: Mumbai Indians finally got off the mark by winning the 20th match of the IPL 2024 by defeating Delhi Capitals by 29 runs. Mumbai Indians looked much more energetic and disciplined in their second home ground match, and the desperation for the first win in this year’s league yielded results. Mumbai Indians’ all-rounder Romario Shepherd, playing his first match for them, scored crucial runs for the MI in the death overs, ultimately making MI post a total of 234/5 in 20 overs, which they defended successfully against Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant chose to bowl first after winning the toss, and MI started with a typical left-right hand combination where Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan looked hungry to score runs; the duo scored 75 runs in the powerplay, but Rohit Sharma while trying to score a single to reach his first fifty in the IPL 2024 trapped by Axar Patel to dismiss him on 49. Suryakumar Yadav, who was playing his first match in IPL 2024, got out on a duck. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya played some excellent shots and kept running the scoreboard, where the former got out on 42 courtesy of Axar Patel’s absolute blinder. Tim David and Romario Shepherd lighted up Wankhede Stadium due to their quick fire. Mumbai Indians reached a total of 234 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing the massive total, the Delhi Capitals’ start didn’t go as per their plan as David Warner left the field early, but young Prithvi Shaw was looking in some touch and maintained the run rate of his team. He got the support of Abhishek Porel in the chase. Shaw scored his fifty, and from the other end, Porel started hitting the ball, but the former got dismissed on the score of 66 and the latter on 41. Tristan Stubbs kept fighting till the end but couldn’t get the win for his team. Stubbs scored 71 runs off 25 balls as DC finished with 205/8 at the end of 20 overs, losing the match by 29 runs.

IPL 2024 20th Match MI vs DC: Captains’ Corner

Definitely we were in contention, but we didn’t have enough runs in the batting powerplay, especially when you’re chasing such a big score., We batted well in the next few overs, but it’s not easy to constantly score 15 rpo for many overs. Yes, we had a few bad overs (with the ball), but it does happen at times. “The bowlers needed to bowl into the wicket, slower ones and the variations were important. The bowlers needed to understand the conditions well. I think we need to improve on a few areas – death-over bowling and our batting as well.”

Rishabh Pant said Post-match

It was a lot of hard work. We had to clear our minds and make sure that we believed. We will be making tactical changes here and there but this will be our 12 and settling our team now is important. There’s a lot of love and care going around in the changeroom. Belief and backing each other is the attitude out there.
