CSK vs KKR: CSK got back to the winning ways after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd match of the IPL 2024 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Chennai after losing two back to back matches finally tasted win courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. KKR looked clueless in front of the bowling attack of CSK as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and they could only post 137 runs on the board. CSK reached to the target in 17.4 overs.
After winning the toss, CSK’s skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad chose to bowl first, and from the first delivery of the match, the decision to bowl first paid off as Tushar Deshpande got the wicket of Phil Salt. Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi started running the scoreboard for KKR, putting 56 runs on the board in 6 overs. But Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Raghvanshi in the first delivery of the spell, followed by Narine’s wicket and then Venkatesh Iyer. KKR’s skipper, Shreyas Iyer, tried fighting the conditions and scored 34 runs(the highest score by a KKR batter during the match). The powerhouse Andre Russell also failed to score big, and KKR’s innings ended at 137/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 138 runs, CSK got the start with Rachin Ravindra hitting some brilliant shots, but he could only able to score 15 runs; skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t let the pressure build on his team and kept scoring runs from one end with some supportive innings from Daryl Mitchell CSK slowly reached closer to the target meanwhile Gaikwad scored his first fifty as captain and Shivam Dube with some fireworks at the death overs made the win easy for his side. CSK reached the target with 14 balls remaining.

IPL 2024 22nd Match CSK vs KKR: Captains Corner
“Little nostalgic for me. During my first IPL fifty, similar situation, Mahi bhai was with me and we finished the match. Wicket was slightly tricky, didn’t want to put the side under pressure. Was a 150-160 wicket. With this team I don’t need to tell anything to anyone. In T20 sometimes you need little bit of luck to get going.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad said post-match
“It’s deafening out here, but I’ll try to express. We got a phenomenal start in the powerplay, but we lost consecutive wickets. We weren’t able to assess the conditions quickly after the powerplay, scoring runs wasn’t easy. “They (CSK) know the conditions pretty well, they bowled according to their plans. Wasn’t easy (for the new batters) to go after them from the first ball. We were trying to construct the innings, but it didn’t fall in place according to the plan. The wicket changed after the powerplay”
