LSG vs CSK: KL Rahul while taking a catch

LSG vs CSK: in the 34th IPL match against Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants registered a phenomenal victory against the crowd favorite Chennai Super Kings. The game was at Ekana Cricket Stadium, the home ground of LSG, but the whole stadium erupted in Yellow Jersey to support CSK. Though MS Dhoni’s few balls play entertained the fans and helped his team reach a good total, it wasn’t enough for the LSG’s batters as they won the match comfortably by eight wickets.

LSG’s skipper, KL Rahul, won the toss and decided to bowl first. Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra started the innings for CSK, but the Kiwi batter got on a duck. Skipper Ruturaj and Rahane slowly started increasing the run rate. LSG’s Yash Thakur dismissed Ruturaj in the fifth over, with his outside delivery finding the edge of the batter. Ravindra Jadeja provided strength to the batting line-up as other batters failed to support him. Shivam Dube got out on a bouncer, and Moeen Ali, after hitting three consecutive sixes in the over of Ravi Bishnoi, got out trying to send another one out of the park. MS Dhoni’s nine balls innings took CSK to the score 176/6 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 177 runs, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock looked clinical in their approach as the duo not only reaped the benefit of field restrictions during the powerplay but played smart cricket. The two looked complex to get dismissed, and some sloppy fielding gave LSG’s batters more chances to take risks. Both batters scored their half-centuries, though CSK dismissed Quinton de Kock and Kl Rahul, but it was too late to change the eventual outcome as LSG won the match by eight wickets and one over to left.

IPL 2024 34th Match LSG vs CSK: Captains’ Corner

Feels good at the end of the day. When you win, most decisions feel right. We were committed to our plans. Really happy with that. Depends on the wicket, I deploy my bowlers. We tried to mix it around. The bowlers executed really well. The team is sticking to the plans. Half way stage, I would have been happy with 160. The wicket was slow and a bit of grip. MSD walked in and the pressure got to the bowlers. He has had the intimidation on opposition bowlers. Our young bowlers were put under pressure with the crowd going berserk as well. 15-20 runs extra they got. I have beeb trying to assess the situation. It came off today.”

KL Rahul said post-match

“We finished well with the bat, couldn’t have asked more with the situation we were in. After powerplay we couldn’t capitalize on the start we got and we kept losing wickets at regular intervals. I would say we were 10-15 runs short. Slightly difficult with such a total, with the impact sub rule you need 10-15 or even 20 runs extra. “Pitches like these seem sluggish to start off with but with dew coming on it gets better, 190 would have been a good score. One area we would like to improve in taking wickets in the powerplay. That will put pressure on the opposition. We need to work on it. Good to play them again (next game at Chepauk). We will come up with good homework done now that we have three home games.”
