CSK vs LSG: Lucknow Super Giants registered a famous win against Chennai Super Kings in the 39th match of the IPL 2024 at MA Chidambaram Stadium. LSG’s batter Marcus Stoinis played an inning that will be remembered for ages; the right-handed batter scored his first IPL century and took his team to victory against the home team. LSG chased a total of 211 runs with three balls to left. Lucknow Super Giants, with this win, jumped to fourth place in the points table, whereas CSK is now just behind LSG in the fifth.
LSG’s skipper, KL Rahul, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. CSK started their innings with the new opening pair of Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad, where the former didn’t trouble the scoreboard much and got out after scoring just one run. Ruturaj Gaikwad started hitting the ball clean and kept going with the momentum. Batters like Daryl Mitchell and Ravindra Jadeja failed to do anything significant, but the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube’s partnership lit up the stadium. The duo had a partnership of 100+ runs, where the skipper scored his second IPL century and later scored his fifty with the last ball four by MS Dhoni. CSK posted 210 runs on the board.
Chasing the massive total at Lion’s Den LSG’s start wasn’t ideal, as Quinton de Kock got out without troubling the scoreboard. Marcus Stoinis was sent up to hit some runs. KL Rahul and Stoinis started attacking the bowlers, but the former’s inning ended with a score of 16 runs. LSG lost both openers inside powerplay, but Marcus Stoinis reignited the hopes of LSG with his powerful hitting and scored fifty in just 26 balls. Devdutt Padikkal didn’t trouble the bowlers much, and Pathirana cleaned him. With two power-hitters, Nicholas Pooran and Stoinis, on the crease, LSG accelerated towards the target with 54 needed in the last four overs of the match. LSG lost Pooran, but from one end, Stoinis kept going and scored his maiden IPL century. In the previous over, LSG needed 17 runs to win, and Stoinis did the job for his team.

IPL 2024 39th Match CSK vs LSG: Captains’ Corner
“Tough pill to swallow, but good game of cricket. LSG played really well in the back end. We had the game in control till 13-14 overs, but Stoinis played a great innings. (On dew) It played a part, there was a huge amount of dew and it took our spinners out of the game. We could have otherwise controlled the game better and taken it deeper. But these are parts of the game, can’t control it. “Jaddu is batting at number 4 since we lost the second wicket within the powerplay. (On Dube’s entry point) Our thinking is clear that after the powerplay if there is a wicket, Shivam will come out to bat. We can’t force batters to get out after. To be honest, I thought our target wasn’t enough, it was just about par because of the dew we’ve seen during our practice sessions. But credit to the way LSG batted.”

Very special, especially when it is a game like that, Felt like we were way behind the game in the chase. Just to pull off a victory feels special. They got off to a good start and put pressure on the bowlers. I didn’t think it was a 210 wicket. They batted really well. All credits to Stoinis. He was phenomenal to watch. It was not just power hitting, but was smart batting.
