SRH vs RR: The 50th match of the IPL 2024 was a last-ball thriller where the home team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, stole the victory from the table toppers Rajasthan Royals in the final ball of the match. SRH won the game by just one run and registered their sixth victory in the league to jump ahead of Chennai Super Kings to the fourth position in the points table.
SRH’s skipper Pat Cummins chose to bat after winning the toss. SRH’s openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, started the innings like they always do by attacking the opposition’s bowlers. However, Abhishek Sharma was dismissed early in the match. Travis Head kept going, and he got the support of the youngster Nitish Kumar Reddy, who hit the bowlers all over the park. Both batters got their fifty and the latter remained not out on a score of 76. In the death overs, Heinrich Klaasen hit some powerful shots to take his team to the score of 201/3 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the huge total, RR’s start was pathetic as the table toppers lost two crucial wickets of Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson in the first over of the chase. The path to victory looked grim, but there came the highlight of Rajasthan Royals this season: Riyan Parag, who partnered with 134 runs with the opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to make the march of his team towards victory clear. It would have been a clear victory for RR if Parag and Jaiswal had remained at the crease. Still, after dismissing both batters, RR started crumbling. However, Rovman Powell and Hetmyer played some big shots to take the match to the last ball of the game. It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s last delivery where the bowler dismissed Powell to register a victory by 1 run for his team.

“We have played some really close games this season, won a couple of them and lost this one. Credit to the SRH bowlers for the way they fought back. The margin of error is very less in the IPL. The game is never done till it is done. “It was tough to bat against the new ball and when it got old, it became easier. Credit to both youngsters (Jaiswal and Parag), myself and Jos (Buttler) got out in the powerplay, they played well and got us to that position.”
Sanju Samson said post-match
“I am good, was an amazing game. That’s T20 cricket. Anything can happen, Bhuvi executed that last ball. You try to take some wickets in the middle. Natarajan is a good yorker bowler, fortunately we got some wickets. Played some games here, thought 200 could have been chased down. He (Nitish Reddy) sums up the conditions pretty well, he’s amazing, great in the field, gives some overs with the ball as well.”
