MI vs LSG: Lucknow Super Giants defeated Mumbai Indians in the 67th match of the IPL 2024 to register their seventh victory in the league. The match wasn’t that vital for both teams, though, as before the game, it was evident that they were not going to qualify for the playoff. Mumbai Indians, after losing the last league match of the IPL 2024, ended their season on a bad note and finished at the bottom of the table.
After winning the toss, MI’s skipper, Hardik Pandya, chose to bowl first; the decision of bowling first seemed right as MI bowler Nuwan Thushara sent Devdutt Padikkal back to the pavilion in the first over of the match. Skipper Kl Rahul and Marcus Stoinis batted cautiously and took the score to 49 runs, but Piyush Chawla dismissed Stoinis in the sixth over, and then Deepak Hooda to keep the pressure on the LSG. Nicholas Pooran decided to attack and didn’t spare any bowlers of MI. He scored his second-fastest half-century and built a 100+ run partnership, due to which LSG managed to put a high total on the board. LSG ended with 214/6 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 215 runs, MI’s start was good as Rohit Sharma was looking in great touch, and the former skipper scored his fifty in just 28 balls to give the start required to MI, but after his wicket, the top order collapsed like a house of cards, with no batter scoring more than 25 runs. It was Naman Dhir who refused to give up and hit some great shots to score his fifty. Unfortunately, he couldn’t lead his team to victory as MI lost their final league match by 18 runs.

IPL 2024 67th Match MI vs LSG: Captains’ Corner
“Very disappointing. At the beginning of the season, I really felt we had a strong team and had most bases covered. Couple of injuries – happens to every team. We didn’t play well enough collectively. Today was a really good performance. “This is the kind of game we wanted to play more. Unfortunately we didn’t do that. Really happy for them. Franchise has invested a lot of time and energy with them (Indian pacers in LSG). It’s not just two months in the year. We sent Mayank and Yudhvir to South Africa to train with Morne Morkel. Hard work for them has paid off, but franchise and the team has worked a lot with them. I’m not sure.

“Quite difficult. Did not play good quality cricket, eventually costed us the whole season. It’s a professional world. Have to always come out and put our best foot forward. But yes, as a group we could not play quality cricket or smart cricket. Too early to point out what went wrong. The whole season kind of went wrong. We can pass this game as another one
