LSG vs. MI: LSG got their second victory in the IPL 2025 after defeating Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Stadium, UP, by 12 runs.
MI’s captain, Hardik Pandya, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first, and Trent Boult started well; though he was hit for a boundary in his 3rd delivery of the over, he found the edge of Mitchell Marsh’s bat in the next ball, but no one appealed, and that proved to be a huge mistake as the right-handed batter scored a quick fifty afterward taking the score of his team to 76 runs. Vignesh Puthur dismissed Mitchell Marsh on 60 runs, and then Hardik Pandya dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant in his spell; MI’s captain went on to take a fifer in the match despite Hardik Pandya’s fifer; LSG posted 203 runs in 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 204 runs, MI lost their openers early in the chase. Mumbai Indians were two down for 17 runs. From there, Naman Dhir and Suryakumar Yadav partnered to take the score to 86 runs. Both were scoring runs from their end, but in the 9th over, Digvesh Rathi dismissed Naman Dhir for 46 runs. Suryakumar Yadav kept scoring runs from his end but didn’t get much support from the other. It was Surya’s wicket, from where the match took a U-turn, and the LSG bowlers started putting pressure on MI. In the ultimate over, Avesh Khan bowled well to defend the total by 12 runs.

“Disappointing when you lose. If we had to be honest, in the field, 10-12 runs we gave too much. We fell short in the end. [On his bowling] Always enjoyed my bowling. I don’t have many options but I read the wicket and use smarter options. I never go for wickets but try to make batters make mistakes. Today was one of those days. As a batting unit, we fell short. We win as a team, we lose as a team. I take full ownership. [Tilak retired out] We needed some hits, he was not getting those. In cricket some of those days come, when you try but they don’t come. Just play good cricket, I like to keep it simple. Take better calls, be smart in bowling, take chances in batting. It is a long tournament, you get a couple of wins and get into the rhythm.”

“The wicket is playing well and we need to figure out what’s working for us and what not. We wanted a different kind of wicket before and then we decided whatever is on offer, we play on that. When you get a good start, you are always ahead of the game. The idea is to play according to the situation. The start Marsh gave helped lower middle capitalise on that. Mentally tough game, they did not lose a lot of wickets and kept on going. Bu we kept our calm and finished the game. [Thakur] has been amazing for us, he has been an amazing pick. Hope he continues. [Rathi] one of our leading bowlers. The way he keeps calm in tough situation, helps us.”
