ICC Champions Trophy 1998 Winner- South Africa

South Africa defeated West Indies in the final match played at Bangabandhu Cricket Stadium, Dhaka, to win the match by 4 wickets. West Indies 245 runs in 50 overs, but the spirited South African side chased that within 47 overs.

ICC Champions Trophy 2000 Winner- New Zealand

In the second edition of the Champions Trophy, New Zealand claimed their first-ever ICC title by defeating India in the final match. India had a dream run in the Knockout trophy in 2000. They beat Australia in the semi-final to face New Zealand in the final. On the final day, India put a total of 264 runs on the board, and the bowlers did their job to inflict early damage to the Kiwi’s side. They sent half of the New Zealand side back to the pavilion with a score of 132, but it was Chris Cairns’s century after the top-order fall that took New Zealand to their first ICC title.

ICC Champions Trophy 2002 Winner- Sri Lanka And India

It was during the 2002 edition when the Knockout trophy was renamed the ICC Champions trophy, and it was probably the first time ever in an ICC title match that there was no clear winner, and the trophy was shared between India and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka scored 222 runs in 50 overs, and India needed 223 to claim their first trophy, but the rain didn’t let that happen as it incessantly interrupted the match during the final day and the reserve day. Only 8.4 overs were bowled after the first innings, and India and Sri Lanka shared the 2002 title.

ICC Champions Trophy 2004 Winner- West Indies

The fourth edition of the trophy was held in England, with 12 teams this time fighting for the trophy. Host England made their way to the finals by defeating Australia in the semis. On the final day, they faced West Indies at The Oval, England. Batting first, they could only reach 217 runs, which was chased by West Indies in 48.5 overs. West Indies won their first ICC Champions Trophy.

ICC Champions Trophy 2006 Winner- Australia

India hosted the fifth edition of the ICC tournament, but in front of the home crowd, they failed to perform and couldn’t even reach the Semi-finals. Australia and West Indies clashed in the tournament finals played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. 2004 Champions trophy winners failed to perform this time, and while batting first, they could only reach the score of 138 runs as they were bowled out in 30.4 overs. Rain Interrupted the final, and the target was reduced to 116 runs in 35 overs, which Australia comfortably chased in 28.1 overs.

ICC Champions Trophy 2009 Winner- Australia

South Africa hosted the 2009 edition of the Champions trophy. South Africa had a poor run in the tournament as the inaugural edition champions won only one match during the group stage and couldn’t reach the semi-finals. Australia clashed with New Zealand in the final. New Zealand scored 200/9 in 50 overs, and Australia chased the target easily with the help of Shane Watson’s ton and Cameron White’s sensible batting. Australia won the match by 6 wickets, chasing the total in 45.2 overs.

ICC Champions Trophy 2013 Winner- India

England hosted the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and reached the tournament finals to face India. In a rain-interrupted match that eventually became a 20 overs game, India batting first scored 129 runs, and it looked like an easy total to chase for the home team, but it was the Indian bowlers who restricted England’s batters to score runs as India won the final by 5 runs and lifted the Champions trophy for the second time.

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 Winner- Pakistan

In the last edition of the Champions Trophy, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India lost only one match during the group stage and reached the semi-finals of the tournament, where they defeated Bangladesh to face the arch-rivals Pakistan in the finale of the tournament. India did not perform up to the mark in the tournament’s finale, as Pakistan scored a mammoth total of 338 runs against India. Chasing the target, India’s top batting order collapsed like a house of cards inside 10 overs. India lost three batters, and constant pressure from Pakistan’s side didn’t let Indian batters score many runs. Hardik Pandya batted well, but that wasn’t enough to take India par the target. India lost the final by 180 runs as Pakistan won their first Champions trophy.
