Setback For CSK Ahead Of IPL 2024 As Star Bowler Matheesha Pathirana Got Injured
Sri Lanka’s speedster Matheesha Pathirana will remain absent for nearly 4 to 5 weeks from the field due to an unfortunate hamstring injury that he suffered during the three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Matheesha Pathirana was one of the key bowlers for the CSK side last year, as the right-arm pacer picked up 19 wickets in the 12 matches played by him. Chennai Super Kings, who won their fifth IPL title last year, got back-to-back setbacks as a few weeks ago their opening batter Devon Conway was declared unfit to play as his left thumb got injured during a T20I series against Australia, and now Matheesha Pathirana’s injury.
“The Grade 1 hamstring typically takes nearly two weeks to recover fully. So, it remains to be seen when Pathirana can join the team, and it is hard to tell at this stage whether he will be available for the initial couple of matches,”

Pathirana played a significant part in CSK’s win march in the IPL 2023, as the right-arm bowler not only stopped opponents’s batters from scoring runs but also took crucial wickets when his team needed it. Now CSK not only has to choose their perfect opener, who could provide the start for the team while batting, but also groom a death-over specialist who doesn’t leak too many runs in the final overs. Though CSK has a strong line-up so far to replace Sri Lanka’s speedster, the best option that they have is Bangladesh’s bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who is brilliant with his wrist and fingers.
Chennai Super Kings will be seen defending their title this season, and in their first match, they will face the Faf Du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22, 2024, at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Here is the complete line-up of the “Whistle Podu” Army.
