WAF vs LAKR: Washington Freedom defeated LA Knight Riders in the match 8th of the MLC 2025 to register their 2nd victory.
Washington Freedom skipper Glenn Maxwell won the toss and decided to bat first. His decision didn’t turn out to be fruitful as opening batter Rachin Ravindra got out in the first over and then Mitchell Owen in the 3rd over. Inside powerplay, WAF lost 4 wickets, and then the skipper Glenn Maxwell came to put on a show for the fans. It took him time to score his fifty as he took 29 balls to score it, but it didn’t take much to reach a century as in the next 19 balls, he hit the 3-digit mark. Washington Freedom put 208 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 209 runs, LAKR’s start was pathetic. On the score of just 10 runs, they lost 3 wickets, and the top 3 batters got out without scoring a run. Saif Badar started scoring runs, but wickets kept falling from the other end. It didn’t take WAF bowlers much time to clean up the LAKR batting line-up, as in 16.3 overs, LAKR was bowled out for just 95 runs.

MLC, 2025, Match 8th: WAF vs LAKR| Captains’ Corner
I gave myself a chance for sure. Being the captain, you want to carry on for the team. I got to a position where I thought I could just go on. I had 155-160 in my mind. I feel like I was hitting well in India. Sometimes the results don’t go your way. Just a bit of time is needed to get going. I have let him (Ricky Ponting) down in a couple of tournaments. I missed out playing for Punjab in the later stages of the IPL. Playing under Ricky, we hopefully have a chance to add to last year’s trophy. We tried to back that 6 to 8 metres length. Chopping and changing the bowlers helped as well. Netravalkar did well. Adair did well in his first game. You just have to adapt. The attitude in the group has been outstanding. I feel the boys have been resilient. They have been finding ways to win.
Glenn Maxwell(WAF Captain) said post-match
We thought we did well, dropped a crucial chance which made us pay in the end. But we still need to execute better in the backend. We needed to set it up but unfortunately we lost too many wickets in the powerplay, we never got momentum in the middle and nothing to show in the end. It (the pitch) had a bit more variable bounce but having said that if we had set-up better then we could have given a good crack at the end. Cricket is a game of momentum, we just need to win one and then the belief will start to flow. We have to look ourselves in the mirror, ask ourselves honest questions and at the same time stay positive.
