Can Pakistan Still Qualify For The ODI World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals?

Pakistan as a team in the 2023 World Cup is not that impressive, but they are making a comeback in the last matches of the league stage. Pakistan won their last two matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand; in total, they have won four matches in the eight matches they played. In their last league stage match, they would face England, who are already out of the semi-finals race and are at the bottom of the table. Pakistan is in fifth place in the points table, though New Zealand and Pakistan both won four matches, but New Zealand is ahead in the net run rate, due to which they are in fourth.

How Can Pakistan Qualify For The ODI World Cup 2023 Semi-Finals?

There will be two scenarios that can help Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

a) If Pakistan won its last match against England, they will have 10 points, and if Afghanistan loses both of its last two matches plus New Zealand loses to Sri Lanka, in that case, Pakistan will qualify for the semi-finals, but if New Zealand won their last match, Pakistan also wins their last match, and Afghanistan wins one of their last two matches, then the final spot will be decided on the basis of the net run rate.

b) If Pakistan won their last match and the Kiwis also won their last match, both would be on 10 points, and if Australia lost both of their last matches, then three of them would be at 10 points. Now Afghanistan comes into play as their win or loss in their last two matches will decide who will exceed whom in terms of points and net run rate, so the conclusions will get clear once New Zealand faces Sri Lanka on November 9.
