IND(W) vs AUS(W): Australia defeated India by 9 runs to book their semi-final seat. India’s chances to qualify for the semis hang on the result of the following Group A match.
Australia’s stand-in captain, Tahlia McGrath, won the toss and elected to bat first. Grace Harris and Beth Mooney started the innings for their side. Renuka Singh struck early in the match and took back-to-back wickets of Beth Mooney and Georgia Wareham. Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath built the partnership after getting 2 down in the powerplay. Both started troubling Indian bowlers, but Radha Yadav came to the rescue and got McGrath’s wicket. After that, Ellyse Perry scored a quick 32 runs for her team. Batters down the order contributed some runs and took the score of Australia’s side to 151/8 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 152, India’s start was great, with Shafali Verma dealing in boundaries from the first over of the chase, but the hitting couldn’t go long as the right-handed batter was trapped by Ashleigh Gardner in the fourth over and dismissed Shafali on 20 runs. Smriti Mandhana couldn’t score beyond 6 runs and got out in the last over of the powerplay. Harmanpreet Kaur came to the rescue, and after losing the third wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues, she built a partnership with Deepti Sharma for the fourth wicket; both played cautiously and took the game close. Australian bowlers didn’t let the game slip away from their hands and broke the partnership by taking the wicket of Deepti Sharma. In the last over, skipper Kaur didn’t get much ball to face as India kept losing wickets, resulting in the loss by 9 runs.

“They have a batter who can take the target of power play. They don’t have anything fixed. According to pitch, according to situation they can make a plan and play. I think we also planned really well. It’s not like we were here and there. We were there in the game for the last 20 years. I think the difference between them is that they didn’t give us easy runs. I think they have definitely the experience. They have played so many World Cups together. I think that is something that always shows them that they are a great side. [on last minute change after toss] That is something which is not in your control. You always have to make your 13th or 14th play for this tournament. Radha was there and she bowled really well“
Harmanpreet Kaur(India Captain) said post-match
“on 100% win record] Yes, absolutely. We want to win every game we play. We knew it was going to be a really big challenge for us today. They came really hard at us. I am just really proud of the group. We have our nerve at the end there. Obviously, nobody likes injuries, especially to some of the big players. An injury to a captain is always tough. [on captaining today] I was mumbling a bit. No, everyone has been great. The whole team got around me. I had a lot of help out there today from Pez and Ash. It wasn’t only me. There were lots of players in different roles today. I thought everyone stepped up really well. “
