NZ(W) vs PAK(W): New Zealand stormed into the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating Pakistan in the match 19th of the tournament.
New Zealand’s skipper, Sophie Devine, won the toss and elected to bat first. Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer started well and hit some boundaries in the powerplay to take New Zealand’s score to 40+, but in the 7th over, Georgia Plimmer got out after scoring 17 runs. Soon, Suzie Bates got dismissed as New Zealand was 2 down for 50 runs. Skipper Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday kept rotating strikes, which helped increase the runs on the scoreboard. New Zealand finished with 110/6 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 111 runs, Pakistan’s start wasn’t good as Pakistan lost opening batter Aliya Riaz in the second over of the chase. The fall of Pakistan’s batting lineup started with the wicket of Muneeba Ali, who scored 15 runs for her team. Pakistan lost two quick wickets after that as skipper Fatima Sana came to the crease and fought hard for her team, but from the other end, wickets kept falling, and soon the skipper also got out after scoring 21 runs. New Zealand bowled out Pakistan for 56 runs to win the match and enter the semi-finals of the World Cup.

T20 Women’s World Cup 2024, Match 19th: NZ(W) vs PAK(W)| Captains’ Corner
(On reaching the semi-final) Probably has not quite sunk in yet. Incredibly proud of this group. 2016 was the last semi-final we made and it has been a long time. We will celebrate tonight but we are looking forward to the next phase of this tournament. Results have not gone our way leading into this tournament. But the thing I am most proud of is we stuck to the processes. When we get it right, we can beat any team in the world. To do that in the World Cup, I am incredibly proud. Eden was outstanding again tonight and to see them (the youngsters) step up is amazing.
Sophie Devine(New Zealand captain) said post-match
We were good with the ball but we have to improve our batting and fielding. We were not up to the mark. I think our seniors should step up in these kinds of matches. As a bowling unit, we were up to the mark but we need to improve our batting, otherwise we cannot survive in women’s cricket. That is the main thing (that we will take back from this tournament).
