Pakistan vs Canada: Pakistan registered its first victory of the T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating Canada by 7 wickets in match 22 of the tournament.
After winning the toss, Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam chose to bowl first, and Canada’s openers Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal started the innings for Canada. The start was impressive for Canada as the openers were hitting boundaries, but Mohammad Amir came back to dismiss Dhaliwal with a score of 4. After that, Canada’s top and middle order batters didn’t do much damage to Pakistan as the conditions were aiding Pakistan’s bowlers. Aaron Johnson was fighting alone from his end and scored his fifty before getting dismissed in the 14th over. Canada managed to score 106/7 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 107, Pakistan’s openers Mohammad Rizwan and Saim Ayub batted cautiously, but in the fifth over, Saim Ayub was dismissed as Pakistan lost their first wicket. Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan started building a crucial partnership to chase the total. Mohammad Rizwan remained not out on 53 runs as Pakistan registered its first victory of the league matches by 7 wickets with 15 balls to spare.

“Good for us, we need this win. We started well with the bowling, in the first six overs we know we had to be up to the mark. [On winning quicker to go level with USA’s NRR] It was in our mind, to win before 14 overs but the pitch made it difficult. [On getting angry when getting out] Because I’m out with the same shot twice (against India)! This is my shot but sometimes you need success. I’ll try my best.”
Babar Azam(Pakistan Captain) said post-match
Definitely, it was a bit disappointing. We wanted to play a positive brand of cricket and I think the wicket was not very helpful. It was difficult to bat early on – not a good toss to lose. We were about 25 to 30 runs short.”
Saad Zafar(Canada Captain) said post-match
