The new era for the Indian test team is set to begin as the baton passes from Rohit Sharma to Shubman Gill, who will lead the side. However, there are still many questions to be answered about who will be in India’s playing 11 against England in the first test.
Sai Sudharsan will get the debut cap in the match against England in the first match. The cap is given by the Indian legend Cheteswar Pujara, and surely he is going to play at the No.3 Spot because Pujara also used to play in this spot.
Who will play at the No. 3 Position in the Indian Batting Lineup? Sai Sudharsan or Karun Nair?
The number four position is taken by Indian captain Shubman Gill, as vice captain Rishabh Pant confirmed on June 18, 2025, during a press conference. However, the No. 3 Position is still a mystery because there are two solid contenders for it. 1st is Karun Nair, who has already shown his skills and dedication by scoring a double century in the practice match.
The other option is one of the most prolific young batters in India, Sai Sudharsan, who is sure to give an extra advantage as a left-hander and someone who can play shots quite consistently, even in a Test match.
They both played County cricket, and Karun Nair had a better performance as he played 14 innings, with an average of 52.57, including four half-centuries and one century. On the other hand, Sai Sudharsan played eight innings with an average of 35.13, including one century and one half-century. For now, Sai Sudharasan is a great choice to be at number three, and Nair at number six.
Will Washington Sundar play in the first test match against England?
The chances for Sundar to play in the first test are quite low because India is surely going to play with Jadeja, and the Leeds pitch is for the pacers, as spinners do not get much of purchase from the ground.
Who will play Prasidh Krishna or Arshdeep Singh in the first test of India vs England?
Prasidh Krishna is likely to start the first test match due to his hit-the-deck bowling. He had a fantastic season in the IPL, taking 25 wickets, which surely makes him a great pick. However, according to the conditions, Arshdeep is a better choice because of his left-arm swinging delivery.
