Aston Villa eyes Timo Werner and Kelechi Iheanacho for striking reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa is eyeing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho as potential striking reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window, aiming to bolster their attacking options.

As the January transfer window approaches, sources reveal that Aston Villa is actively pursuing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner and Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho. The Midlands giants are prioritizing a forward signing to provide cover for Ollie Watkins and strengthen their attacking lineup.

Werner, who has scored two goals in 14 appearances for RB Leipzig this season, is on Villa’s radar as they seek additional firepower in the attacking third. The German striker had an impressive 2022-23 campaign, netting 16 goals in 40 games for Leipzig.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Nigerian forward, Iheanacho, is out of contract at the end of the current season. Despite featuring sparingly for Leicester in recent weeks, Iheanacho’s goal-scoring prowess, with six goals and two assists in 20 appearances, has caught the attention of Villa’s scouting team.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is keen on securing a forward who can provide valuable support to Watkins. The English striker has been in exceptional form, registering 14 goals and eight assists in 24 appearances across all competitions in the ongoing 2023-24 campaign.

The potential move for Werner and Iheanacho aligns with Villa’s strategy to reinforce their attacking options, ensuring depth and competition within the squad. Additionally, the report suggests that Jhon Duran is likely to leave the club in January, with a loan move being the preferred option. Emery has reportedly raised concerns about Duran’s attitude, emphasizing the need for significant improvements to meet the manager’s expectations.

As the transfer window approaches, Aston Villa’s pursuit of Werner and Iheanacho highlights their commitment to strengthening the squad and enhancing their competitiveness in the Premier League.
