Former Hoops and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie has emphasized the need for Celtic to focus on acquiring first-team quality additions during the upcoming winter transfer window rather than opting for “projects.” While the club made 10 signings during the summer, including promising talents like Luis Palma, Tomoki Iwata, Odin Thiago Holm, and Paulo Bernardo, McAvennie believes that strengthening the bench with experienced players is essential to secure their 12th title in 13 seasons.
McAvennie expressed his anticipation about Brendan Rodgers’ potential signings in January and highlighted the need for reinforcement in specific positions. He particularly emphasized the necessity of another center-forward, stating that relying on just two strikers, including young talent Oh, might not be sufficient for the club.
According to McAvennie, an “A-list striker,” a left-back, and possibly a quality center-half should be on Celtic‘s radar. He stressed that the club should prioritize players who can seamlessly integrate into the starting lineup, making the squad stronger overall.
The former striker pointed out that while Celtic has some long-serving players like Stephen Welsh, Anthony Ralston, Scott Bain, and Mikey Johnston, they may not provide the same level of quality as the first-team starters. As a result, McAvennie believes that it’s crucial for Celtic to focus on immediate impact signings to enhance squad depth and competitiveness.
