Excitement is building among hockey fans as Odisha, a global hub for the sport, prepares to host the FIH Pro League 2023-24 legs in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from February 3 to 25. The eagerly anticipated women’s leg is set to commence on February 3, featuring teams from China, USA, Netherlands, and Australia.
With just two days remaining until the start of the FIH Pro League, the women’s teams have arrived in Bhubaneswar and are undergoing final preparations. The hockey fever has gripped both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, as sales of online and offline tickets have begun, creating anticipation for thrilling matches and enthusiastic support for the teams.
The Sports and Youth Services Department is working closely with various government departments and Hockey India to ensure a memorable experience for both teams and fans. Meticulous planning includes infrastructure, safety measures, transport, accommodation, hospitality, and event conduct.
Vineel Krishna, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department, expressed his pleasure at having an international hockey tournament at Kalinga Hockey Stadium, Bhubaneswar, and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Rourkela, one year before the Hockey Men’s World Cup. He highlighted the significance of the event for the Women’s team, making a comeback to the Pro League and debuting in Rourkela, while the Men’s team sees these matches as crucial in their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The mini-tournament will showcase both the Indian Women’s and Men’s Hockey Teams. The Women’s team, led by Savita, will compete against the USA, Netherlands, China, and Australia in Bhubaneswar from February 3 to 9, followed by their debut in Rourkela from February 12 to 18. The Men’s team will face Netherlands, Spain, Australia, and Ireland in Bhubaneswar from February 10 to 16 before moving to Rourkela for return fixtures from February 19 to 25.
As Odisha braces for an intense display of international hockey talent, fans and players alike anticipate a memorable experience during the FIH Pro League 2023-24.
