Paralympics 2024: Sumit Antil Won Back To Back Gold In Javelin Throw

Sumit Antil becomes the first Indian athlete to retain Gold in Javelin Throw at Paralympics 2024.

India’s Javelin Thrower Sumit Antil created history in the Paris Paralympics 2024 by winning the Gold medal in the Javelin Throw. In the Tokyo Paralympics, he threw the Javelin to a distance of 68.55 m to set a record in the Paralympics, and in the Paralympics 2024, he retained his status by throwing the Javelin even further this time. He broke his previous throw record in the very first attempt by breaching the previous distance of 68.55. In the first attempt he threw it to a distance of 69.11m. But that was not it for the champion, who hit 70.59 m afterward to break the Paralympics record again. The lead was too much for the other athletes as Sumit Antil claimed Gold again and helped his nation take the lead in the medal tally.

Two more athletes took part in the Javelin Throw event than Sumit Antil from India. Sandeep Chaudhary and Sandip Sanjay Sargar tried their best to win a medal for India. Sandeep Chaudhary finished fourth in the rankings, whereas Sandip Sanjay Sargar finished seventh. Sandeep’s best throw was  62.80 m, and Sanjay touched 58.03 m in his third attempt, which was his best in the event.

Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuwakku claimed silver with his category best of  67.03m, which is now the world record in the F44 disability category, taking his country to the podium. By the end of 2nd September 2024, India had 15 medals, 3 golds, 5 silver, and 7 bronze.
