Previously, he praised the combat sport for its ruthless conditioning routine, and now he wants to have the same spirit of fighting that Muay Thai fighters have into his grappling and submission games.

He has been the IBJJF world champion five times, and he has been so far undefeated in the ONE Championship. In his last grappling match, he submitted Aoki with a leg lock. His deadly ground game made the best grapplers in the world tap, and after dominating every grappler in his weight division on the mat, he could be seen fighting in a different combat sport.
