UFC featherweight kingpin Alexander Volkanovski was seen breaking down in front of the media during the post-fight press conference at UFC 294 where he shared some things that he was dealing with and why he accepted the rematch fight on such short notice. Alexander Volkanovski accepted the rematch fight on 13 days short notice, but he was unable to put up a fight like he did last time and got knocked out in the first round. In his recent interview with Israel Adesanya, “The Great” openly talked about his physical and mental health before accepting the rematch.
“It was like a little kick up arse for me – I wasn’t disciplined. I’m known for being disciplined all year round, 24/7 and I just wasn’t that time. I was really disappointed. I was more upset with who I was in the previous months leading up to that. To be honest, it made it a little easier because it snapped me out of it. It snapped me out of it. I was drinking every day for like three or four weeks.
Alexander Volkanovski said
Alexander Volkanovski accepted that defeat from Islam Makhachev for good, as that loss helped him divert his mind to training and get back to the rhythm he had before. Volkanovski, after losing his last fight, is training for his next fight, where he will put his featherweight title on the line against undefeated featherweight MMA star Ilia Topuria. The two are headlining the UFC 298 event, which is going to happen on February 17th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Ilia Topuria is looking to upset the featherweight champion at UFC 298, and “El Matador” has always said that he will outclass Alexander Volkanovski in the octagon; there’s just 9 days remaining until UFC 298.
