“Moves Like Ilia” Demetrious Johnson Breakdown Aleksandre Topuria’s Fight Style Before Latter’s UFC Debut

UFC has inducted the elder brother of the reigning featherweight champ Ilia Topuria into the roster, and the Spaniard is going to make his debut in the UFC in February at UFC 312, which the middleweight title bout between reigning champ Dricus du Plessis and Sean Strickland will headline. There’s no doubt that Ilia’s brother Aleksandre Topuria is carrying a lot of hype with him, and that somehow put pressure on the UFC debutant. According to the former UFC flyweight champ, Demetrious Johnson, the Spaniard can have a great debut seeing his fighting skills inside the cage.

Analyzing his fight in a regional MMA promotion, “Mighty Mouse” praised the boxing skills of the current reigning champ. As the elder brother trains in the same camp, he has movements like Ilia, and that’s what the former champ said.

“He comes from the same camp as the uh Ilia and I bet you right now he’s probably going to move just like his brother the boxing is probably going to be exactly the same there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be the same especially if their brothers and they train together um I seen a couple videos of those guys training together and he moves just like Ilia.”

Aleksandre Topuria has 5 wins in his professional career so far; like his brother, he has the skills to finish his fights. In fact, all his wins were finishes, though ending all his fights, he didn’t have an undefeated record as the Spaniard lost to Ivo Ivanov, who gave him his first defeat in his professional career. On the other hand, his opponent at UFC 312, Cody Haddon, is also a finisher and has only one loss in his career. It will be exciting to see whether “El Cazador” lives up to his hype or the Australian hand over the Spaniard his second MMA loss at UFC 312.
