India’s tennis sensation, Sumit Nagal, extended his remarkable unbeaten run by advancing to the singles quarterfinals of the Bengaluru Open 2024. The second seed showcased his dominance on the court with a convincing straight-sets victory over Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) Stadium.
Nagal, who recently clinched the ATP Challenger title in Chennai, demonstrated his prowess in the second-round clash, dispatching Wong 6-2, 7-5 in an hour and 45 minutes. The World No. 98 asserted control early in the match, securing a commanding lead in the opening set and ultimately sealing it with ease.
Although Wong mounted a stronger challenge in the second set, breaking Nagal’s serve at one point, the Indian quickly responded by breaking back to level the score. Drawing upon his experience and tactical acumen, Nagal maintained his composure to fend off his opponent’s advances and clinch the decisive set and match.
Nagal’s next opponent will be fifth seed Adam Walton of Australia, who secured a straight-sets victory over Belgium’s Gauthier Onclin in the second round. With Nagal in peak form and riding high on confidence, fans can expect a thrilling showdown between the two talented players in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, other key results from the tournament saw seventh seed Stefano Napolitano of Italy emerge victorious against Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in a hard-fought encounter. Despite Pospisil’s valiant effort, Napolitano’s consistency and resilience proved decisive in securing the win.
