World U20 Wrestling Championships

At the World Under-20 Wrestling Championships in Amman, India’s wrestling contingent continues to shine as Sumit and Deepak Punia make their mark. Sumit, competing in the 60kg category, has reached the final, securing a guaranteed medal for India. Meanwhile, Deepak Punia has earned a bronze medal in the Greco Roman competitions, adding to India’s medal tally.

Deepak Punia’s remarkable comeback in the 77kg category was a sight to behold. Trailing 0-2 due to passivity against Georgian Tornike Mikeladze, Punia displayed incredible defensive skills and executed powerful counter-attacks. With a late surge, he managed to secure two-pointers twice, ultimately securing a sensational come-from-behind victory.

Sumit’s journey to the final has been equally impressive. He outclassed his opponents with ease, defeating Kazakhstan’s Saifulla Kurman 11-0, Poland’s Oliver Skrzypczak 15-7, and Iran’s Amirreza Dehbozorgi 10-0 through technical superiority. Sumit’s dominant performance has earned him a spot in the 60kg final, where he will face Armenian wrestler Suren Aghajanyan in the battle for the gold medal.

In another bronze medal match, Sandeep (63kg) faced tough competition from Japan’s Komei Sawada but was ultimately beaten 4-0. Despite the loss, India’s wrestlers continue to showcase their determination and skill on the global stage.

With Sumit’s assured medal and Deepak Punia’s bronze, India’s wrestling contingent is making its presence felt at the World U20 Wrestling Championships. The performances of these young athletes are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the rigorous training they have undergone. As the championship progresses, India’s wrestling fans eagerly await the final bouts and hope for more victories to come.
