“It was a bold move” Ex-RCB Star Praised Dinesh Karthik For His Match-Winning Finish In RCB vs PBKS IPL 2024 Match

Royal Challengers Bengaluru‘s wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik earned the praise of fans and ex-RCB star AB De Villiers after his match-winning knock of 28 runs off 10 balls at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. While chasing the target of 176 runs against Punjab Kings, who opened their IPL 2024 journey with a win, RCB lost some early wickets, with skipper Faf du Plessis and Australian all-rounder Cameron Green getting out after scoring just three runs each. Virat Kohli kept the chase going and scored his 100th T20 fifty in the match, but from the other end, he didn’t get the support needed, and RCB kept losing wickets. In the 16th over of the second innings, Virat Kohli got dismissed on 77 runs.

RCB still needed 47 runs to win, and then Dinesh Karthik came to the rescue. Where the right-handed batter and the impact player Mahipal Lomror unleashed the attack on Punjab’s bowlers, with Dinesh Karthik finishing the match by hitting a boundary in the last over of the game, earning RCB’s first 2 points in the IPL 2024. AB de Villiers hailed the batter’s remarkable innings of 28 runs off 10 balls that turned the tides towards RCB’s side in the final overs of the game and said this on JioCinema post-match.

“I thought Virat played superbly. Kept the innings together for the guys. And then DK, what an addition to that side. In that middle-order or finishing role. I thought it was a bold move back then,”

Dinesh Karthik was cautious while batting at the end, knowing that one more wicket could cause RCB a win. Praising the smartness of the batter, AB de Villiers said that he was proud of him and impressed by the batter’s calm mindset going into the last overs of the match.

But the calmness that he brings, and how smart he is. Yes, not the best bowling at the back end of an innings. But he didn’t take a lot of risk. He was very calculated and knew they couldn’t lose another wicket. 28 runs off 10 balls at the back end, whether good or bad bowling, is an exceptional effort. Obviously, had backing with Lomror there as well. All in all a match-winning effort from him and I am really proud of him,”
