Royal Challengers Bengaluru‘s wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik earned the praise of fans and ex-RCB star AB De Villiers after his match-winning knock of 28 runs off 10 balls at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. While chasing the target of 176 runs against Punjab Kings, who opened their IPL 2024 journey with a win, RCB lost some early wickets, with skipper Faf du Plessis and Australian all-rounder Cameron Green getting out after scoring just three runs each. Virat Kohli kept the chase going and scored his 100th T20 fifty in the match, but from the other end, he didn’t get the support needed, and RCB kept losing wickets. In the 16th over of the second innings, Virat Kohli got dismissed on 77 runs.
RCB still needed 47 runs to win, and then Dinesh Karthik came to the rescue. Where the right-handed batter and the impact player Mahipal Lomror unleashed the attack on Punjab’s bowlers, with Dinesh Karthik finishing the match by hitting a boundary in the last over of the game, earning RCB’s first 2 points in the IPL 2024.
