Manish Krishnanand Pandey was born on September 10, 1989, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand to G.S. Pandey (his father) and Tara Pandey (his mother), and at the age of 15; his family moved to Bengaluru due to his father’s posting. His father is a retired army officer and wanted his legacy to be passed on to his son, but Manish Pandey has other plans, as he chose cricket as his career, and the rest is history.

Manish Krishnanand Pandey’s domestic career started when he got the opportunity to play in local tournaments for Karnataka. At that time, Satish, a well-known name in the cricket community, coached him. Pandey was later inducted into Karnataka’s Ranji team, and during the Ranji trophy (2009-2010), he scored 882 runs, the highest in that season. He scored four centuries and five fifties with an impressive average of 63 during that season and took his team to the finals of the Ranji trophy(2009-2010). unfortunately, they ended up on the losing side against Mumbai despite his fabulous innings of 144 runs during the match’s fourth innings. Since then, he become a top prospect for inclusion on the Indian team.

Manish Pandey was inducted into the Mumbai Indians’ roster during the inaugural season of the IPL. But, the right-handed batter had a rough season with the bat, scoring just three runs in the three matches he played. In the following season, when he was acquired by Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB), the batter showed his potential to score big runs in the limited overs format. Pandey became the first Indian batter to score a century in the IPL as he played a flamboyant innings of 114 runs against Deccan Chargers(now defunct). After a spectacular season with the bat in 2009, his performance dipped, but in 2014, while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the final, his innings of 94 runs took his team to its second title win. Post-2014, he didn’t impress the audience much with his batting skills.

Manish Pandey, even after playing U-19 back in 2008 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, when India’s U-19 team registered a victory in the finals to lift the trophy, it took him a long time to get into India’s senior men’s team. He got his Indian cap in 2015 when India toured Zimbabwe for the ODI series, and in his debut ODI match, he scored 71 runs. His 104* against Australia was his breakthrough point, as he showed his potential to perform in international matches. The highs and lows in his career followed after that, as he was sidelined from the Indian side due to his poor performance. He last played an international match in 2021 when India played against Sri Lanka.
