England, after ending Day 2 of the first test on 209/3, got a steady start on Day 4 as Harry Brook and Ollie Pope were batting cautiously, but a short and wide delivery by Prasidh Krishna did the job for India as Pope fell for it and while trying to slash the ball hard it found the edge of the bat and got into Rishabh Pant‘s gloves, England lost their 4th wicket which brought England’s skipper Ben Stokes on the crease but his innings didn’t last long as Mohammed Siraj found the edge of the bat and got his first wicket of the test series.

Harry Brook kept going from his end and got the support of Jamie Smith from the other. Both batters closed the trail gap; meanwhile, Harry Brook scored fifty. Jamie Smith was reaching closer to his fifty, but a field set-up worked for India as Smith pulled a bouncer deep backward to a square leg where Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan took a combination catch. Harry Brook was still on the crease and closing down the gap. Some catches were dropped, which helped the right-handed batter to reach closer to a century. Unfortunately, when he was just 1 run away from his century while trying to guide a bouncer, he got caught at fine leg and got out.

It took some work to get the rest of the wickets, but eventually, India ended England’s innings with a 6-run lead. Jasprit Bumrah took his 14th 5-wicket haul in test cricket, and then India came to bat with the first innings opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. In the 2nd innings, the left-handed batter got out after scoring four runs. Sai Sudharsan and Rahul took the innings forward. Sai Sudharsan scored 30 runs before getting trapped by Ben Stokes again in the test match. India ended Day 3 with 90 runs on the board.
