PBKS vs SRH: Sunrisers Hyderabad, in the 23rd match of the IPL 2024, registered their third victory in the IPL 2024, defeating Punjab Kings on the latter’s home ground by two runs. The game was a high-scoring clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Even after losing, their star batters managed to put 182 runs on the board courtesy of Nitish Kumar Reddy’s innings in the middle overs, which helped his team reach a defendable total. Later, the bowlers of SRH did the job in the powerplay to put pressure on the PBKS to slow down their run rate; however, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma kept the hopes of the Kings alive till the very end but unfortunately fell short by two runs.
After winning the toss, Punjab Kings chose to bowl first, and SRH started their batting innings with their explosive batters Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Travis Head survived the first delivery of the match when the ball nicked his bat and went straight to the wicketkeeper’s bat. Still, the umpire wasn’t interested in the appeal, and PBKS didn’t take the review, though the left-handed batter tried to capitalize on the chance but could only reach the score of 21. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Aiden Markram after Travis on a duck, and then SRH lost Abhishek Sharma as well; SRH was three down inside powerplay, but young Nitish Kumar Reddy came as the rescuer and played a brave innings of 64 runs off 37 balls and with some runs scored by the tailenders SRH reached to the total of 182 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing a total of 183 runs, the home team’s start wasn’t ideal as they lost Jonny Bairstow on a duck in the second over the chase, and then Prabhsimran Singh got out, followed by Shikhar Dhawan; PBKS were in deep trouble as the required run rate was going higher and runs were not coming from the PBKS side. At the end of the powerplay, PBKS were 27/3. Sam Curran hit a few shots, but Pat Cummins took a blinder to dismiss him. Shashank Singh, the hero of the last game for PBKS, came to the crease and got the support of Ashutosh Sharma; the duo again started turning the game to the PBKS side with 29 runs required in the last over of the match. PBKS scored 26 runs, but unfortunately, they lost the game by just 2.

IPL 2024 23rd Match PBKS vs SRH: Captains Corner
“I feel that Shashank and Ashutosh played a great knock, we restricted them to a good total, but we couldn’t cash in on the first 6 overs, lost 3 wickets and that’s where we fell behind and it cost us in the end. “When the wicket wasn’t offering a lot of bounce, every individual will have to look back and change their approach. We dropped a catch off the last ball, we could have kept them down by 10-15 runs, but batting let us down.
Shikhar Dhawan said post-match
“Was a great game of cricket, they bowled really well at the start, we did well to get to 180. Got too close. Always tried to be positive. They bowled exceptionally with the new ball. With 150, you are going to lose nine out of ten times. We were pretty happy with 180. “Conditions maybe (on taking the new ball). Bhuvi and I tried to take a couple of wickets with the new ball. (On Nitish) He was awesome, fantastic in the field, bowled three overs.”
