A heartbreaking update for India came out today, as India’s women’s wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 and will not get his deserved Silver medal either. After defeating some of the best wrestlers in the world in the Olympics 2024 to become the first Indian women wrestler to reach the finals after her semi-final match, she found herself 2kg overweight and didn’t sleep all night to cut it down to qualify for the finale of the Olympics 2024. She trained all night to cut her weight but during weigh-ins came nearly 100gms above the limit due to which she was disqualified from the final showdown. USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt will be crowned the winner and get the wrestling gold medal.
🚨 It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made…

The team of Vinesh Phogat asked for some more time to cut the necessary weight, but their request was denied. Issues regarding weight cuts aren’t new for her, as the wrestler faced similar problems while qualifying for the Olympics. The note to remember here is that Vinesh Phogat doesn’t compete in the 50kg category and was a regular contestant in the 53kg category. However, in the Olympics 2024, Antim Panghal is representing India in the 53 kg category, so Vinesh Phogat lowered her weight to compete in 50kg.
Wishes were poured in for Vinesh from India for her speedy recovery. The wrestler was hospitalized after being disqualified from the event, which was heartbreaking for the Indian fans and wrestling community. However, she won the hearts of the Indian fans with her performance, and a quick recovery is expected.
