LSG vs KKR: The 54th match of the IPL 2024 brought another victory for the Kolkata Knight Riders. They beat Kl Rahul‘s Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Sports Stadium to increase their lead in the points table and overtake Rajasthan Royals to come up at number 1. LSG’s batters couldn’t put up a fight against KKR’s huge score and were bowled out for 137 runs.
After winning the toss, KL Rahul decided to bowl first, and KKR’s batters Sunil Narine and Phil Salt started the innings like they always do, smashing bowlers and scoring as many runs as possible in the powerplay. Phil Salt and Narine posted 58 runs in just four overs, but Phil Salt was dismissed on the score of 32. However, Sunil Narine continued batting in his fashion and kept smashing the bowlers. Angkrish Raghuvanshi also scored some runs, but in the 12th over, Narine’s show ended. The batters afterward contributed to the cause, with Ramandeep Singh hitting 25 runs in just six balls to take the team’s score to 235 runs.
Chasing 236 runs, LSG’s openers KL Rahul and Arshin Kulkarni tried to give the team a great start, but Kulkarni was dismissed after scoring just nine runs. Marcus Stoinis hit some great shots to maintain the team’s run rate from the other end, wickets kept falling, and in the first over of Russell’s spell, Stoinis also got out. No batter other than Marcus Stoinis has crossed the mark of 30 runs in LSG’s batting line-up, and they got all out in just 16.1 overs.

“Lot of runs. Poor performance overall. It was a big total. It’s a poor performance with both bat and ball. Narine in powerplay puts a lot of pressure. Our bowlers couldn’t handle this pressure. That’s how the IPL is. You will come against good players and that when you will be tested. It wasn’t a bad pitch. 235 was 20-30 runs were above par. (on the batting) Our batting was poor. We prepare in advance, we talk about the opposition batters, trying to see what kind of plans we need to come up with. (on Narine Challenge) We need to execute it when we come here, but we didn’t we make a couple of mistakes against Sunil and anyone who strikes well. (Aftermath) Once we go back to dressing room, we move on from this game and see where we went wrong. Last home game, we are on the road for the next few games, we need to be a little bit more fearless.”

“The last six matches in the dressing room there has been havoc, people are coming in and asking skip what’s happening, we are losing tosses, we are winning games. So we can make that sacrifice. (on the batting) We had a great start in the powerplay. A lefty-righty combination makes thing difficult for the opposition. It’s all about the freedom, to go out and express themselves. (On assessing conditions) We want to go out and be positive whatever the situation is, sometimes it doesn’t work out but sometimes it does. They have been splending for us, the way they are playing their shots is pure bliss. They are setting us up and giving is momentum and no matter what the situation is, we are playing with a positive mindset.”
