After winning the toss, LSG’s skipper, KL Rahul, chose to bat first at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul opened the innings, but the former’s innings ended in the first over of the match. Kl Rahul kept running the scoreboard from one end as one more wicket fell from the other. Marcus Stoinis did the job for the LSG as the all-rounder scored his fifty. He scored 58 runs before getting dismissed. Nicholas Pooran hit some powerful shots in the death overs, but GT’s bowler’s line and length didn’t give him much chance, as LSG could only put 163/5 on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing a total of 164 runs, GT’s batters started well with 54 runs inside powerplay overs, but in the last delivery of the last over of the powerplay, Yash Thakur broke the defense of Shubman Gill to pick the first wicket for his team. Later, Kane Williamson was dismissed as Ravi Bishnoi caught an absolute blinder. LSG’s spinners didn’t leak runs in the next ten overs of the match, which put the pressure on GT. Batters afterward failed to contribute big runs in the chase as GT got all out on the score of 130, losing the match by 33 runs.
