KKR vs RCB: Kolkata Knight Riders won their fifth league match after defeating RCB in their second encounter of IPL 2024. KKR won the game by just one run at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. KKR posted 222 runs on the board, and RCB’s batters, even after losing Kohli and du Plessis earlier in the chase, gave the scare to the KKR’s camp, and the match went till the game’s final ball.
After winning the toss, RCB’s skipper, Faf du Plessis, chose to bowl first, and KKR, as usual, started their innings with Phil Salt and their trump card, Sunil Narine, who failed to do his magic with the bat. But Phil Salt boosted the innings with his 48 off 14 balls. KKR posted 73 runs on the board at the end of 6 overs but lost three wickets. Skipper Shreyas played a good innings of 50 runs to take his team to a respectable total. Some clinical hitting from the lower order batters and 24 runs off nine balls of Ramandeep Singh led KKR to 222/6 at the end of 20 overs.
RCB got early shocks, chasing the massive total, losing both Faf and Virat Kohli in the powerplay. But the partnership between Will Jacks and Raja Patidar kept the hopes of winning for RCB alive. Both batters hit some clean shots and scored their fifties. RCB was in the chase, and due to both batter’s contributions, they posted 122 runs on the board at the end of 10 overs. But in the 12th over of the game, both batters got dismissed by Andre Russell, and RCB started crumbling with batters like Cameron Green failing to capitalize on the boost given by Patidar and Jacks. Dinesh Karthik carried the hope of RCB, but the batter could only take his team to 202 with 21 required in the last over. Karn Sharma hit Mitchell Starc for three sixes, but unfortunately, RCB lost the match by just one run.

IPL 2024 36th Match KKR vs RCB: Captains’ Corner
It takes a lot off your body and drains you out completely because you go through so many emotions. It’s tough to stay calm but I’m elated. We got two points on the board and that’s all that matters. (On Bowling in last 3 overs) It’s extremely tough when the pressure is on, I feel that every individual should put their hands up and take the responsibility. Russell did that by picking up two wickets and completely changed the game in our favor, that kind of attitude is needed in the team. It’s a funny game, when you need 18 runs off 6 balls, the pressure is on the bowler. One six here and there, it completely changes the momentum.

It was crazy. Rules are rules, Virat and myself in that space thought the ball was higher than his waist. You always find one team happy and the other not so with such decisions. (Batting of RCB) With a target like 220, takes a hell of a lot to get there. When you haven’t won for a while, just that clarity. Narine’s over was the turning point for me. We feel like the game is changing. We don’t feel like there is time to get in. Guys who take 7-8 balls to get in, it feels like the game does not allow you to do that anymore. It is tough. You just play the match-up with Narine, he is such a quality bowler. If you are winning games and get the confidence of getting the team over the line, you take such decisions. I am proud of the boys, a lot of fight out there. We though the total was chaseable and thought it was a par score.
