DC vs GT: Delhi Capitals, in the 40th match of the IPL 2024, defeated Gujarat Titans to register their fourth victory in the league. Delhi Capitals was playing their second match at their usual home ground against Shubman Gill and Co. After getting a defeat in the first, they bounced back to register a victory in their second. The two teams locked horns twice in the IPL 2024; both times, Rishabh Pant and Co. got the better of Gujarat Titans. The match was a last-ball thriller where the home team, despite putting 224 runs on the board, won it by just four runs.
After winning the toss, GT’s skipper, Gujarat Titans, chose to bowl first, and the bowlers of GT backed their captain’s decision by taking three wickets in the first 6 overs. The top-order batters were gone, and DC was in trouble. An experiment to send Axar Patel up in the order worked for DC as the all-rounder with skipper Rishabh Pant pulled the team out of the storm, and the lefties started depositing the ball out of the park. Both batters scored their fifties. The duo had a partnership of 113 runs, with some last-over hitting by Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs. DC posted a massive total of 224 runs on the board.
Chasing 224 runs, GT started with Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, but the skipper’s innings ended on the score of 6 runs. Sai Sudarshan and Saha built the momentum for GT, and both batters started dealing in boundaries and posted 92 runs in 9 overs. Meanwhile, Sai Sudarshan hit his fifty, but the left-handed batters’ innings ended with 65 runs. GT lost quick wickets in the next few overs, and the hopes to win the match were looking grim, but David Miller came to reignite the hopes of GT and scored a fifty in just 21 balls. Rashid Khan scored 21 runs in just 11 balls but couldn’t take his team to victory as they lost by just four runs.

IPL 2024 40th Match DC vs GT: Captains’ Corner
Nortje was having a tough time. T20 is a funny game, after 14-15 overs the ball was coming on nicely. So we wanted to trust Rasikh, always trust someone who is bowling well in a game. I think it is about instincts as a captain, it will come off sometimes. Happy it worked today. Surely at 43/3, we wanted to just keep going and target their main spinners. If we get something, we will take it on and keep rotating the strike. Everyday that I’m in the middle, I feel better. Every hour on the field matters, I love being on the field. I try to give it my 100% and it takes some time sometimes. I think the first six in the match gives me the confidence in a game. The more time I spend in the centre, the better I feel.”
Rishabh Pant said post-match
“I think we played some really good cricket, disappointing to lose in the end, but great character shown by everyone. Great fight till the end and we never thought we were out of the game at any point. When you’re chasing 224, there’s no point in talking about plans, just go out and score runs. I think impact player has a bit of a role (in making the matches high scoring), even if you lose extra wickets, extra cushion is there for the batters to keep going and it gives the license for the batters to keep going till the end. At one stage, we thought we would be able to restrict them to 200-210, but we gave away some extra runs in the last 2-3 overs.“
