MI vs KKR: Mitchell Starc with Shreyas and Venkatesh Iyer

MI vs KKR: Kolkata Knight Riders gave another thriller to its fans and broke the Wankhede Stadium Jinx to register a victory against the home team, Mumbai Indians, in the 51st match of the IPL 2024. KKR won the match by 24 runs to remain in the second spot in the points table, just behind Rajasthan Royals. Mumbai Indians’ pitiful run continued as they lost another match in front of their home crowd. Their chances of play-off qualification are only so optimistic if something unexpected happens in the upcoming matches.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya chose to bowl first, and his decision was proved right as MI’s bowlers dismissed the dangerous openers of KKR in the powerplay and then took the wicket of the skipper; the top order was collapsing, but the Southpaw Venkatesh Iyer gave the strength to KKR’s innings and also scored his fifty. He got the support of Manish Pandey, and the two slowly took their team to par hundred after the dismissal of Manish Pandey. The remaining batters contributed nothing significant, and KKR posted 169 runs on the board.

Chasing 170 at Wankhede Stadium for MI wouldn’t be a challenging task; that’s what spectators expected, but KKR’s bowlers shattered the hopes of Mumbai Indians by picking wickets at regular intervals to push back MI’s march towards victory. Suryakumar Yadav was the only batter in the MI’s line-up who scored a fifty and played like he would take MI home, but Andre Russell dismissed the batter. Then Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets in the penultimate over to bowl out MI on the score of 145.

IPL 2024 51st Match MI vs KKR: Captains’ Corner

“Obviously we couldn’t form partnerships and kept losing wickets. There are a lot of questions that will take time to answer. But for now, not much to say. Bowlers did a fantastic job on this track. The wicket got better if I’m not wrong. Dew came in the second innings. Will go through the game and see what we can do better. You keep fighting, that’s what I keep telling myself. It’s challenging, but you take the challenges.”

We are [knocking at the door] at the moment. Lot of thinking would have gone behind that [had we lost today]. Just got to know about the stat [of KKR not winning at Wankhede for 12 years]… This Impact Player rule specifically helped us in this game. Manish has being eyeing an opportunity from the first game. We got to a commendable total. I told the boys that if we have got here, we can defend it.
