RCB vs GT: Faf du Plessis and Mohammed Siraj hugging each other

RCB vs GT: Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered victory in match number 52 of the IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans to remain alive in the playoffs race. They defeated Shubman Gill and Co. at Chinnaswamy to win their fourth match in the league. With that victory, they jumped to the seventh position in the points table, and their chances of play-offs are still alive.

After winning the toss, RCB’s skipper, Faf du Plessis, decided to bowl first, and this time, the bowlers of RCB didn’t disappoint, this time dismissing the openers of Gujarat Titans in the powerplay. Then they made the upcoming batters of GT struggle for every run. Though Shahrukh Khan, like last time, did his best and scored crucial runs for his team while taking a quick run from the hands of Virat Kohli, he lost his wicket and got run out on the score of 37. Some runs were contributed by batters like Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan to take the team’s score to 147/10.

Chasing a total of 148 on a batting-friendly pitch is all that RCB wanted, and the skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli gave the start needed. Faf looked unstoppable, and the duo took the team’s total to 90+ inside powerplay, where the skipper scored fifty in just 18 balls. Still, in the last over of the powerplay, Faf got out on the score of 64, and RCB spectators who were thinking that their team would win easily from there were to get a surprise as in the next 15 runs, RCB lost 6 wickets, a total collapse of the top order was seen by the audience. But Dinesh Karthik and Swapnil Singh pulled their team out of the trouble and won. RCB won the match by four wickets.

IPL 2024 52nd Match RCB vs GT: Captains’ Corner

Been really good last few games, the way we’ve played with bat and ball. Aggressive with the bat, unbelievable in the field. [Assessment of conditions] There was more bounce in the wicket, we got that information and the bowlers were consistently really good. We dropped a catch but have been really consistent. Something around 180-90 would have been a good score, but we’ve seen the way the game has changed. Don’t look at the scoreboard and play the way that we want to play. It was a bit nerve-racking, another wicket, another wicket. Probably not the best but you’re trying to be positive, get your NRR up. It makes sense from that point of view but it gets to the point when you need to show a bit of calmness and composure – probably around four down, so some lessons to be learned from that.”

Faf du Plessis said Post-match

“It depends on the wicket. First couple of overs you get a good idea and play according to that. I think 170-80 on this wicket would have been a good total. How we batted in the powerplay, and how they bowled, decided the game. We would have had one extra bowler but losing three wickets in the powerplay [changed planning]. Very important to start from zero in our next match and move on from this game. Learn from mistakes and not repeat them. All about winning from here on.”
